Suzanne Arms (Faculty)
Suzanne Arms – I am the author/illustrator of 7 books on pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and adoption. My book on birth, called Immaculate Deception (published 1975) was named a Best Book of the Year by the New York Times. My passion is the creation of non-violent, sustainable communities and societies. In 1978 I co-founded one of the first out-of-hospital birthing centers.
I am founder and director the nonprofit/charity Birthing The Future®, located in Colorado, USA. BTF focuses on the Birth and the Primal Period (the time from pre-conception to age one) and the mother-baby bond. During the Primal Period, lifelong patterns of fear and defense or love and trust are laid down in the baby’s developing brain and nervous system.
I advocate for a paradigm shift in how we bring babies into the world and how we protect and support childbearing women and the critically important mother-baby bond, which starts before conception. The Time Is Now is a global project of Birthing The Future. We create International Symposia and Roundtables, films, posters, bookmarks, pamphlets and other inspiring educational materials.
